ABOUT THE PROJECT
Keeping the stories alive.
Chaak-Ming Lau and Yee Kai Gary Tang
Centre for Research on Linguistics and Language Studies (CRLLS), The Education University of Hong Kong
This is the companion website to Waitau and Hakka: Hong Kong Indigenous Language Story Collection (Lau and Tang, 2024). It presents stories in Waitau and Hakka collected from rural communities in Hong Kong, including folktales, local history, customs, children’s stories, and village life.
Recordings, animations, and illustrations accompany the original story texts. The collection offers a way to learn about local languages and culture, and to encounter a lesser-known side of Hong Kong.
The interface is in English, while the story titles, synopses, and transcripts remain in their original languages.
